Monday, June 19th


1. Plein Air Painting event with the Des Moines Social Club

Use your creative skills to paint a canvas to be displayed at the Des Moines Social Club.  You pick up your canvas on Friday and have the weekend to paint a scene in the Des Moines area.  All of the completed works will be displayed in the show Monday June 9th in the Viaduct Gallery.   Note: There will be a small supply fee for participation.  Additional Details to be announced.   What is Plein Air Painting?  We are happy you asked.. use this helpful link to get up to speed.

2. DMAF Curated - Mars Cafe May 8 - June 21

Silent Rivers will be hosting a curated gallery with some of the DMAF featured artists at Mars Cafe. Artists convene at the Des Moines Arts Festival from diverse places and backgrounds. We initiate this inaugural group show with a selection of 10 artists that explore a sense of place, but from various perspectives. Whether delving into individual or cultural memory, or accentuating the physical context for individual or community narrative, these artists reflect up our collective relationship within built space, the fabric of our homes, neighborhoods, towns and city. 

3. Des Moines City Ride 5:30 PM - 10:00 PM

Join Des Moines City Ride for a special Art Week bicycle ride. Meet us at the Des Moines Social Club to check out the Plein Aire Reception and Auction. At 6:15pm we'll hop on our bikes and ride through Water Works Park to the Art Center, where docent Mia Farrell will do a brief 15 minute talk on one of the outdoor sculptures. We'll make our way back downtown, and end with an after party hosted by Art Terrarium! Screen print your very own City Ride t-shirt, with help from The Side Garage, and have a drink while exploring Art Terrarium's unique collection of art, pottery, and plants.

Tuesday June 20th


1. Fitch Building Open House 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM

Fitch building will host an open house for Art Week 2017.  More details to follow and you can keep up to date on the Fitch Building through their Facebook Page.

2. Prosecco and Paintings at Amanda Reynal Interiors

Just across from the Fitch building Amanda Reynal Interiors will host guests with nibbles and prosecco and have a variety curated artworks by nationally recognized artists on display and for sale.   1417 walnut sreet, suite D -  Amanda Reynal Interiors

3. The Maker Space Tour and Open Hours 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM

Come visit the maker space for a tour and to meet some of our artists in residence and members. Learn about the ways you can create at the space and our meetups and groups. More information here: The Maker Space

4. University of Iowa ATRIUM event at the Pappajohn Education Center 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM

The University of Iowa will be hosting an ATRIUM event in conjunction with Art Week on Tuesday, June 20 at the UI Pappajohn Education Center, 1200 Grand Ave. The ATRIUM event will feature a variety of artists who have designed and printed a limited edition of "Lost Films" posters. The artists will be available for conversation and networking and their posters will be available for purchase that evening. Cash bar and lite hors d'oeuvres- RSVP on the Facebook event page

5. Live Painting and Ice Cream Pop-Up at Oliver+James Salon

In honor of Art Week Des Moines we are celebrating with an evening of live painting and ice cream. The Outside Scoop will be posted up outside the salon and doling out delish small batch ice cream for you to enjoy while dreamboat local artists Meanz Chan and Tia Rodemeyer adorn our storefront windows with a decorative painting. 6. Special Art Week - dmYoga class & Happy Hour at PCHG 5:30 PM - 6:15 PM

dmYOGA will lead a beginner level group yoga class. Please arrive up to 15 minutes early to be ready for instructor introductions (Drop in as space permits). dmYoga will provide Special Kombucha from Agri-Cultured & Juice from Fresh Cafe & Market. Wednesday June 21st


1. LAZE Gong Bath 12:00 Noon at Capital Square

High noon smack in the middle of Art Week Des Moines. Bring a sleeping bag, pillow, anything to help you be cozy. If you can, bring at $10 love donation for the musicans. LAZE for an hour while being "bathed" in gong sounds amid the bustling downtown lunch hour. Check the Facebook Event Here

2. Salon 4700 Event at Yellow Door Gallery

3. Des Moines Storytellers Project: The Secret Lives of Artists - Bash Events & Catering 6:30 PM

Presented by The Des Moines Register and in partnership with the Des Moines Arts Festival! Enjoy stories of unlocking the dreams and delusions within, from local and notable community members alike. Storytellers are coached by Register reporter Courtney Crowder, who will also serve as the event emcee. Purchase tickets at DesMoinesRegister.com/Artists.

4. DSM Girl Gang "Quick Draw" Event at Fourth + Court Hy-Vee Downtown 5:30PM - 8:00PM

The event will involve 20+ artists drawing on site with each drawing being sold at the event for a fixed price of $30. Please check the Facebook Page for more information

5. The Conservatory Salon 7:00PM  - 10:00 PM

Join us at The Conservatory for an Art Week DSM event featuring works by Anderew Abbott, Benjamin Gardner, Frank Hansen, Jim Ochs, and Jonathan Pearson. Thursday, June 22nd


1. Urban Visionaries Show at the Des Moines Social Club - 7:00 PM - Close

The Urban Visionaries show focuses on urban artists from around the world.  Artists such as Banksy, Shepard Fairey, Swoon, etc will be shown in the Viaduct Gallery.  The opening night will feature, music, drinks, and lots of great art. 

2. Riverview Artist Salon at the Des Moines Social Club 5:00 PM - 9:00 PM

Riverview Artist Salon is a grass roots, volunteer funded and Member driven community of full time, part time, emerging and returning Iowa Creatives from all disciplines as well as businesses, organizations, educators and advocates of Iowa art and culture.  In collaboration with the DMSC, please join us in the Culinary Loft for a themed evening of experimental programming including spoken word, film, synthesizer demo, live artist renderings and speakers representing local art advocacy and community outreach organizations.  Featuring: Spoken Word: John Domini Creative Showcase: Natalie Lowe Advocacy: Art Action Iowa Community Outreach: Bob Schulte Gallery: Tatiana Giacinti

3. Lillian Genth: "For the Good of My Soul" - The Garage at Salisbury House  5:30 PM - 7:30 PM

This special exhibit considers the work of American artist Lillian Genth (1876-1953) during a consequential period in her career. Carl and Edith Weeks acquired at least ten works by Genth – the most by any single artist in the Weeks’ extensive collection. These works reflect both the extraordinary transition in Lillian Genth’s career and her friendship with Edith and Carl Weeks. 4. Wild Beasts at the Barnum Factory  6:00 PM - 10:00 PM

Chicken Tractor is proud to announce its contribution to Art Week Des Moines, a one-night exhibit of work by four of Iowa's most talented artists. These Iowa artists' works are deeply engaged in the relationship between predator and prey, honoring the lives and deaths of Iowa's wildlife with work describing the alertness required for survival and the artifacts and environments created by human violence. The exhibit features work by Heidi Wiren Bartlett, Larassa Kabel, Lee Running, and Jessica Teckmeyer. Learn more about the exhibit and the artists here: Chicken Tractor.

5. APOSTO Restuarant - Special Dinner 'A Study in Vibrance'

Chef Cory and Tony will be focusing on the season of summer and extracting colors from a variety of local and seasonal ingredients to match our surroundings. 6. Leona Ruby Hosts Christine Hilbert's Book Release Party 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM

Leona Ruby (400 E. Locust St, DSM) will be hosting the release of artist and jewelry designer Christine Hilbert's first children's book, Echo of the Star on Thursday June 22nd from 5-7 pm. The illustrations are inspired by her ongoing Heirloom Anthology series of watercolor paintings combined with vintage gems. Along with copies of Echo of the Star, Hilbert will also be displaying prints of the illustrations and original watercolors from the book. 7. The Conservatory Salon 4:00 PM -7:00 PM

8. eVenti Verticali 9:15 PM

Join us at the Des Moines Arts Festival's HyVee Main Stage for a free showing of eVenti Verticali's "WANTED."  You have to see this spectacular vertical dance act sponsored by a leading retirement services company, Athene, to believe it. The Italian production company’s visual comedy show features video projections behind two artists suspended by rope while they play “cops and robbers” on a vertical stage. Friday, June 23rd


1. Des Moines Arts Festival Opens!  11:00 AM - 10:00 PM

2. Art Bus Unveiling - Greater Des Moines Public Art Foundation 12:00 Noon

As a part of the 2017 Des Moines Arts Festival, DART and the Greater Des Moines Public Art Foundation are once again parterning to wrap a transit bus with an artist's design. This year's art bus features artwork by Des Moines artist Jordan Weber. The unveiling ceremony is Friday, June 23 at 12:00 pm on 12th Street between Grand Avenue and Locust Street.

3. Pappajohn Sculpture Park Drop-in Tour 2:30 - 3:00 PM

Stop by for a conversational docent-led exploration of the Pappajohn Sculpture Park.  Meet at Jaume Plensa's Nomade on Locust Street.

4. DSM Girl Gang Takeover at Marlene's @ Sevastopol Station 4:00 PM - 6: 00 PM

DSM Girl Gang Takeover Part 2 will return to Marlene's at Sevastopol Station June 23rd.  Enjoy local artwork and great food and drinks.  1938 S.E 6th St Des Moines, IA.

5. Ballet Des Moines Special Performances - Des Moines Art Center 5:30 PM and 8:00 PM

*Note:  Event is Sold out for 2017 *  Ruptures Interpreted by Artistic Director Serkan Usha with original music composed by Lindsay Keats. Two performances, each followed by one-hour receptions for commentary and Q&A.  Complimentary wine and light hors d'oeuvres will be available.  Ballet Des Moines and the Art Center have embarked on a moving collaboration of dance and visual art. The works that comprise Ruptures are rife with emotion and physicality, qualities fundamental to dance.  Four vignettes will be performed in artistic dialogue with the exhibition.  *Reservations requested at desmoinesartcenter.org

2. ArtFest Midwest - Varied Industries Building - Iowa State Fairgrounds 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM

Artfest Midwest, Iowa's largest fina art show, is an indoor event (with a few outdoor spaces) held in the rain-free, air-conditioned Varied Industries Building at the Iowa State Fairgrounds.  Approximately 250 artists will be participating in this 15th annual event.  ArtFest Midwest will again offer free shuttle bus service to downtown. 3. Des Moines Art Center Drop-in Tour 1:00 PM

Stop in for a conversational docent-led exploration of the Art Center’s world-renowned collection and prize-winning architecture.

4. Kathleen Roling 3D Chalk Artist at Five Monkey's 1:00PM - 8:00 PM

3D Chalk artist, Kathleen Roling is featured at Five Monkey's. Kathleen will be working live on a 3D art piece as well as showcasing many of her 2D chalk art. 4. Good Vibes Yoga  at Yellow Door Gallery 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM
